The Principal's Post:

Dear Parents,

I want to take this opportunity to let you know the dates and schedule for our Spring Parent Conferences.  You will have the opportunity to check in with your child’s teachers on these days:

March 29th       2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

March 30th       2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

March 31st       2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Students will be released at 1:40 p.m. everyday from March 29th to April 1st.  All conferences will take place in our Multi-Purpose Room/Cafeteria.  It is extremely important to discuss your child’s academic progress as they will only have one more quarter to raise their grades for the semester and year.  If your child is on a promotion/retention contract or 8th grade academic contract, it is mandatory that you attend conferences on one of the days listed above.  We will go over the contracts and alternatives with you.  Please make sure to put these dates and times on your calendar.  If you have any questions regarding parent conferences, please contact our office at 847-2828.

Spring Break will begin on Friday April 2nd and continue through April 9th.  Students and staff return to school on April 12th.  Please do not leave for extended vacations or pull your students out early or return them late.  Every day of instruction is crucial and warrants your child’s presence in the classroom.  Thanks for your cooperation.

As many of you know, we are facing a terrible budget situation for the 2010-2011 school year.  You might have heard or read about possible cuts in programs and staffing at all GUSD schools.  South Valley will experience these cuts too.  We are working with our district office and teachers to make the best of a tough situation.  I invite you to attend our School Site Council meetings as well as the Board meetings to inform yourself of all the information that will have an impact on your child’s education.  Our School Site Council will make some difficult decisions about allocating our site funds to support our staff and students.  Dates for our SSC meetings are:

March 23rd       3:00 p.m.

April 27th         3:00 p.m.

May 25th          3:00 p.m.

I hope you will involve yourself and support South Valley during this time of need.  Thanks and as always, you’re welcome to visit us anytime.

Best Regards,

Greg Kapaku

Principal
